ADVANCED ISSUES IN PREPARING A CASE FOR APPEAL

Kelly Woodruff, a Certified Appellate Law Specialist, will address advanced issues in preparing a case for appeal such as maneuvering the statement of decision process, strategically using post-trial motions to bolster an appeal, and ensuring your client’s story is reflected in the record.

Kelly Woodruff is a certified appellate specialist who has represented clients and amici curiae in dozens of significant appeals and writs in the state and federal appellate courts.  She has developed a sub-specialty in handling family law appeals and writs, and regularly consults with trial counsel on preparation for trial and strategizing for clients who are thinking ahead to an eventual appeal.  She is a member of the California Appellate Law Group, a boutique law firm focusing exclusively on appellate matters.  Kelly clerked for the Honorable James R. Browning of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the Honorable David A. Ezra of the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii.  She graduated magna cum laude  from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where she served as Senior Executive Editor for the Hastings Law Journal, and is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in California, as well as the Ninth, Federal and Sixth Circuit Courts of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
